FAQs

Do we bulk bill?

Wilson Eye Centre is a private clinic and as such we do not offer bulk billings.  Your account must be paid on the day of your consultation.  You will be able to receive a Medicare Rebate once your account has been paid in full as long as you have a current referral.  Private health insurance does not apply until you require treatment in a hospital facility.

Do I need a referral?

You can be seen without a referral however you will not receive any Medicare Rebate.  For this reason it is advisable that you obtain a referral from either your General Practitioner or Optometrist to be able to claim your rebate.  A referral from a GP or Optometrist will last 12 months.  A referral from another specialist will only last 3 months.

Can I drive after my appointment?

It depends on what you are coming to see us for.  At the time of booking your appointment if dilation drops are required you will be advised that it is best to seek alternative transport arrangements. Occasionally, it will be unknown if you will need dilation drops until you are assessed. It is not legal to drive a car while your pupils are dilated

Are you a NO GAP clinic for cataract surgery?

Yes we are.  If you have the appropriate level of private health insurance we do offer NO GAP on cataract surgery with monofocal lenses. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your options.

How do I make an appointment?

Before making an appointment we require a detailed referral so that way we can best triage your appointment needs. Once we have received a referral you will be contacted by one of our friendly staff.  You will be asked a few questions and will be offered the next available appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

You will need to bring your Medicare Card, Pension Card, Private Health Insurance Card or if applicable your Gold DVA Card along with any current spectacles you use.

If you take a lot of medications ) it would be very helpful to have these written down.

If you have an extensive eye history please write this down as this will be helpful during your consultation.

What can I expect from my initial appointment?

At your initial appointment you will be assessed firstly by one of our highly trained ophthalmic assistants who will take a brief medical history and perform standard tests like checking your visual acuity and measuring your intraocular pressures. Once you have had your preliminary assessment you will see Dr Eshun-Wilson who will conduct a thorough examination. You will be advised of his findings at the time of your consultation.

If you are visually impaired it is imperative that you bring someone with you to help you with your paperwork.

If you are hearing impaired please bring someone with you to listen in during your consultation.

We encourage a family member to accompany you during your consultation.
